3 Night Stand at Off Broadway: Night 3
August 7, 2011
Approaching the third and final evening of our 3 Night Stand at Off Broadway, we were a little more than tired. Sometimes being at a show in a comfortable environment (I mean figuratively, not physically – it was like 100 degrees [blah, blah, blah some whine about St. Louis weather]) is just as satisfying as the music itself.
We sat outside with OB’s sound engineer for nearly the entire duration of the headlining set, needing bottled water, cheap beer (just a couple!), and friendship. “So what’s the hardest instrument to mic?” we slurred with weary eyes. Ryan’s answer? I have no clue, but I remember that the spoons were easier than you’d think.
Don’t worry about us not catching most of what we know was a fabulous, sold out show.
By spending 3 days in a row at the same place, we quickly developed a kinship and familiarity with the staff and the room that we didn’t realize could exist in a place like a rock club. “Welp, see you tomorrow,” we’d mumble as we shuffled out. We watched the crowd grow exponentially from Wednesday to Friday, feeling like Off Broadway was waking up and stretching its legs for the weekend. We left our 3 Night Stand experiment a bit more broke and a lot more exhausted. More importantly, we gained new appreciation for what it takes to run a concert venue in our equal parts petulant and progressive St. Louis music landscape.

I believe it’s Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band.
