The Fortnightly: August 1st – August 14th
August 2, 2011
Here at IWTAS, we pride ourselves on respecting and celebrating one another’s varying interests and passions (and also teasing each other about them). We all love those live musical performances widely known as “shows”. Additionally, Baker enjoys duck hunting, Julie reviews books by famous people, Annie enjoys drawing (see above), and I have a dinosaur “problem”.
Tomorrow, Elly Herget of The Skekses will storm El Lenador in an effort to marry two of her passions: poetry via Bad Shoe and songs via a few of her St. Louis favorites. Herget runs B.S. along with Erin Wiles; the lit mag will celebrate the release of its 6th Issue (Vol. 2 Iss. 2) on Wednesday.
Delight your inner (or outer) nerd in the safe, cool person-approved space that is El Len, as several of our area’s leading female poets (including Herget herself) read some serious – and often seriously funny – shit, all under the guise of buck cans of deer beer and the promise of a musical finish to the evening.
The words start around 9, with music beginning at 10 by Beth Bombara, O Fool, and Lonesome Cowboy Ryan & His Dried-up Teardrops (aka The South City Three). This isn’t your Freshman Year of College Literature Professor’s poetry reading. It isn’t your typical South City Stag Nite, either. Bring 5 dollars and come with us. Delve into something different.
