Show Preview: PUJOL w/ Carriage House, Bruiser Queen, & Warm Jets USA

I’m going out of town this weekend to sweat until I am dead float down a river, but first I wanted to make sure all y’all know about the fantastic and somewhat under-the-radar show that’s happening on Sunday at Off Broadway. You might remember RFT Music’s excitement a month back when this show was announced.

PUJOL plays Off Broadway July 8th.

Well, the time is nigh and the line-up now features some of St. Louis’ best live bands – Bruiser Queen (please, please check out their album, Swears, if you haven’t already) and grown-ass hard rockers Warm Jets USA. Carriage House is also on the bill, whom I’ve yet to see out; but from what music I’ve streamed and what updates I’ve read, I’m expecting good tunes and dick jokes in equal parts.

This [Jason] Potter poster designed for the show is reason enough to end up at Off Broadway on Sunday night.

The main event? Daniel Pujol’s PUJOL straight out of Nashville, TN. Pujol’s 2012 release, The United States of Being (Saddle Creek), is smart, loud, and catchy – it’s garage rock that’s been dragged through a swamp by a couple of punks. His gruff voice is star of the show; his lyrics frame the collective conscience of American 20-somethings without being histrionic.

Bonus Treat: Pujol also collaborates with girlfriend Alexa Zoe Sullivant on EGGS, a weekly poetry-illustration feature in Nashville Scene that’s worth checking out.

So for $5 (a steal), I suggest you put off doing Sunday night laundry, slam a couple of aspirin, throw some dress pants in the dryer on Monday morning, and head to Off Broadway on the 8th at 8 o’clock. Official details here.
