IWTAS EXCLUSIVE: Bruiser Queen Debuts Video for “In Your Room”
August 9, 2013
If you don’t know about the garage rock n’ roll stylings of St. Louis’ Bruiser Queen, you better ask somebody. The duo of Jason Potter and Morgan Nusbaum released a full-length album in 2012, Swears, which earned them love and affection and new fans — also a deal with Certified PR Records. A 2013 7″ featuring two tracks from the “In Your Room” EP, will be released on Certified this Tuesday at Vintage Vinyl alongside a special in-store performance by the band and a photography exhibit by Bryan J. Sutter.

Recently, Bruiser Queen shot a video for “In Your Room” and are being kind enough to let IWTAS debut it below. We’re proud to know these two, and can’t wait to witness their next move. We asked Morgan a few questions about the shoot and it went like this:
How did you choose “In Your Room” as Bruiser Queen’s latest video subject?
“In Your Room” is the A-Side the new 7”. After the release of our debut full-length, it was one of the first (and most fun!) songs we wrote.
This video literally takes place in a bedroom. Does the concept of the video fit the theme of the track, or is the setting kind of tongue-in-cheek?
Yep, that’s about as deep as it gets! The concept was that we were crashing our way into people’s bedrooms to play. Which, is sort of how we go about our shows – we’ll play just about anywhere for fun.
How long did it take to shoot? Can you give us a bit of background on the videographers and the rest of the production team?
It was shot over three sessions in about the timespan of a month. The only real challenge was scheduling the shoots. We’d been itching to make a video with our amazingly talented friend Brian McClelland (Blip Blap Videos, etc.) and the timing finally fell into place. Brian directed, edited, and filmed everything, with additional filming by Kat Touschner.
Besides fun and friendship, why are music videos still a relevant way to promote new work?
Videos are just a great way to get a complete picture of the band. With this particular video, we wanted to show everyone what we’re all about and have a great time doing so with our best friends and fans.
What’s next for BQ?
As mentioned, we have that new 7″ out (our first!) and we’ll be having 2 release shows: the one at Vintage Vinyl on Tuesday and then we’ll play on Saturday, August 17th, at the Livery Company. Beyond that, we’re going to be touring some more and we have a split 7″ coming out this fall with our friend (and recording engineer) from Memphis, Harry K’s band, the Turn It Offs.
