[PHOTOS] Mutual Benefit w/ Suno Deko and Dubb Nubb at The Luminary – 10/27/14
November 6, 2014
Following the September release of his new EP, Cowboy’s Prayer, Jordan Lee and his Mutual Benefit made a stop in St. Louis to play The Luminary with Suno Deko and Dubb Nubb.
Mutual Benefit’s performance, or what I saw of it, was full of passion and humility, as Lee acknowledged that it was his first time sharing a bunch of songs with an audience in St. Louis that had actually been written in St. Louis. (The post-11pm Monday night start time of the headlining set was daunting for this traditionally-employed blogger.) “Golden Wake”, from M.B.’s stellar debut, played out like a Midwestern storm, trembling into warm crescendo.
AND HEY: The two-sometimes-three women of Dubb Nubb are making some of the most arresting, thoughtful folk in the region. My concert companion and I marveled over the youngsters’ confidently-paced musical maturation we’ve witnessed in just a few years. Buy their things, and definitely go see them live.
