The Wrecks came to The Pageant earlier this month with Warped Tour alums All Time Low, Waterparks, and SWMRS. They’re a young band that’s vibrant, energetic and full of potential. Relatively new on the scene, The Wrecks formed in November 2015.
THE WRECKS:
The guys playfully queried The Pageant crowd, asking who’d yet to hear of them. Vocalist Nick Anderson’s knowing smile indicated that The Wrecks, indeed, were a fresh discovery to the majority of the crowd. “Favorite Liar,” a track that felt spring-loaded and is reminiscent of The Strokes’ “Someday,” resonated through The Pageant during a particularly decisive moment in The Wrecks’ set. No surprise there, as “Liar” has wracked up something like 5 million streams on Spotify.
Other songs like “Turn It Up” and “James Dean,” a piece of new material, rallied the audience and encouraged the youthful attendees to jump, dance, and wave their hands in the air. The Wrecks’ style is loud and pop-leaning, which partially explains the wide-ranging appeal of their buoyant, emergent alt-rock.
