[PREMIER] Devon Cahill Releases New Single, “When I Wake”
June 20, 2018
In recent years, Devon Cahill has become a fixture in the St. Louis folk/Americana scene thanks to her standout voice and collaborative spirit. She’s led the folk outfit Letter to Memphis, and she’s lent her talents to a host of other local acts like The Defeated County, Prairie Rehab, and Traveling Sound Machine.

Later this year, Cahill is set to strike out on her own as she releases a solo EP that was recorded and produced by Matthew Sawicki at Suburban Pro Studios. A multi-instrumentalist, Cahill plays guitar, harmonica, and percussion on the record while Sawicki offers organ and Rhodes additions to fill out the sound.
IWTAS is pleased to premier a single off the upcoming EP; the track is called ‘When I Wake’. Cahill wrote to us: “I wanted to release this particular song because it’s an extremely empowering and cathartic song for me. I wrote it in a place of complete and utter desperation and I believe it helped me climb out of that. It was somewhat of a transformative song, and it’s a reminder to myself to always check my perspective. People tend to see me as this positive person and I feel like that’s what they want and expect from me, but it’s not always what I am; I think that’s relatable. Everyone struggles in life, and when the darkness is overwhelming and you can’t see anything, YOU can light up the day just by being you.”
