Free Free Energy and Foxy Shazam Tickets

[show_avatar email=db@iwenttoashow.com align=left avatar_size=52] If you like your music to be about crunchy guitar riffs and glammy solos, crashing drums, and long hair, keep reading.  If you’re not sure about all that, then man, you might want to reevaluate what’s going on in that head of yours.  Free Energy’s lyrics are genuine and the overall sound has an instant Polaroid appeal to it.

They’ve won the praise of Rolling Stone and Spin, with both publications putting a “watch this band” stamp on them.  Hell, even LCD Soundsystem frontman/genius James Murphy saw their potential when he helped out on their 2010 album Stuck on Nothing.

All I know

Opening the bill is Foxy Shazam out of Cincinnati.  I’ll admit to not being too familiar with this band, but some quick Google searching has turned up interesting results.  Comparisons to Meatloaf and Queen are common, and I don’t think they’re too far off.  My buddy Wikipedia says they’re in the experimental rock, post hardcore, progressive rock, and soul  genres.  Uh.  I’m not even going to take a stab at quantifying that.  Amazon.com says customers who bought Foxy Shazam albums were likely to buy other Foxy Shazam albums as well as albums from Arcade Fire, Weezer, and Scissor Sisters.  In other words, they are probably the optimal opener for Free Energy!  Watch this…

**P.S., Jess thought she was writing this post (she’s editing it right now), and therefore spent a good portion of her real-job workday listening to Foxy Shazam, or as she has affectionally nicknamed them – The Fox, and she has the following words to offer up without additional commentary:

So here’s the “keep reading” part I talked about earlier.  This is all going to happen at Old Rock House on Wednesday, October 20th and we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky music fan.  What?! The show is sanctioned by Spin Magazine, which is pretty cool in and of itself. So yeah, just drop us a line in the comment section and you’re in the drawing!  Go.  Dance.  Have fun!

We’ll also link to this on our Facebook Page and you can leave a comment there.  Good luck, comrades.
