Preview and Ticket Giveaway: John Henry and the Engine Album Release at Off Broadway

[show_avatar email=jess@iwenttoashow.com align=left avatar_size=62] “Arizona Moon”, the first track off John Henry’s latest release, recently pulsed through my sad, office-issue desk speakers. It’s a dusty Western-tinged siren song, and it called me to toss my computer screen (badly in need of an office-issue Flash update) through the window and jump out to experience that generously sun-drenched Wednesday afternoon.

While the instrumentation is tighter on Sad Face of Yours, Henry’s gruff, pleasing vocal delivery is consistent with his prior releases, namely the I Don’t Wanna Know EP. On the track “Rations”, those familiar with JH+TE’s live performances will find themselves recalling the tall and animated Henry at the front of OB’s stage ostensibly attempting to touch his electric guitar’s headstock to the ceiling.

On Saturday, the band celebrates its Sad Face of Yours release alongside California’s Tommy & the High Pilots and a little slew of popular local acts. Masters of harmonization Dots Not Feathers, Tin Can favorite Emily Wallace, and adorable twin munchkins Dubb Nubb are all included in Saturday’s line-up (D.N. is performing a special courtyard intermission set).

IWTAS and John Henry would love for you to be a part of the celebration. Therefore, the band’s offered up two pairs of tickets to give away right here!
Just post a comment below, Tweet at us, or say hello on this post’s Facebook link on our wall. We’ll close the contest at 3pm Saturday. Winners will be notified electronically or by welcome wagon.
