Beth Bombara Covers Jimmy Eat World: An IWTAS Exclusive

Our pal and St. Louis music staple Beth Bombara has been playing around with a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s iconic “Hear You Me” for the last couple months. In celebration of the band coming to the Pageant this Saturday(!), she’s been kind enough to share it with I Went To A Show readers as a free download!

Bombara began work on the cover as a reward for a dedicated fan (and college pal) who pledged at a certain level during her 2010 Kickstarter campaign, which funded the LP release Wish I Were You. “It was a little intimidating,” said Bombara, “because people already have a context for the song, but you want them to appreciate your vision for it, too. My goal was to make the track simple and organic, so the lyrics could really stand out.”

Rich with gentle percussion, soothing backing vocals, and banjo accompaniment, Bombara’s take on “Hear You Me” breathes new life into a ten year-old ballad.

We hope you all enjoy the song, and big thanks to Beth for sending it our way.
