Contest: Win Tickets to Jessica Lea Mayfield, at The Firebird TOMORROW!

22 year-old Kent, Ohio native Jessica Lea Mayfield rides into St. Louis tomorrow night, and while I loathe people who say shit like this, I’m going to tell you that missing her would be a medium-to-large mistake. Mayfield is a crooner in the most complimentary sense of the word; her gently delivered songs of love and loss hit home with fans precisely because of their restraint and sincerity.

The sweet dudes at Firebird offered us a pair of tickets to go see JLM tomorrow (that’s Tuesday, 7/31, and it’s hosted by KDHX). Share with us your favorite Jessica Lea Mayfield song in the comments section to be entered to win. The contest closes at noon tomorrow. To get you started, here’s my very favorite JLM track – the video features not only Jessica, but also her brother David Mayfield (of the equally awesome David Mayfield Parade, who will be with David Wax Museum at Off Broadway on September 12th), AND who appears to be Anne Lillis – you’d recognize her as part of Samantha Crain’s current band line-up and because of her general percussive badassery:

The Wooden Sky out of Ontario will open the evening, along with local Samuel Finkie. I’m listening to the former’s 2007 release, When Lost at Sea, and it’s good, you guys. So be on time, eh?

Our Hearts Are Wrong off the Tell Me album. My wife is celebrating her 26th birthday tomorrow as well. Some free tickets would go nicely with the vintage Rainbow Brite themed presents I got her…

It’s a toss-up between “Run Myself Into The Ground” and “Our Hearts Are Wrong.” Both show how confident and stripped down one can be with their own life and love. Resilience-Dig it.
