Contest: Win Tickets to see Brown Bird with Union Tree Review at the Duck Room!

My first live Brown Bird experience was at the 2011 Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island, Brown Bird’s home state. We got to the smallest tent at the festival an hour before the music started to secure good seats for the day. Brown Bird was the first band to play that day and I knew I was hooked after the first song. After that weekend, I made it a mission of mine to make sure everyone I know gave them a listen. Most of those people probably got sick of me talking about them, but I couldn’t help it – Brown Bird was my new favorite band.

Brown Bird - Newport Folk Fest 2012

A year and a half later, Brown Bird returns for their first headlining show in St. Louis on Tuesday, October 16th at the Duck Room after two previous visits as openers for Devil Makes Three and Yonder Mountain String Band. Salt for Salt was released in late 2011 and the duo have toured constantly in support of that album. They once again played the Newport Folk Festival this summer, but this time they kicked off the first day of the festival with an incredible set on the main stage. In just one year they’ve graduated from the smallest stage to the largest at what I consider one of the finest festivals in the country. The touring has done them well as that Newport Folk Fest set was probably the tightest I’ve seen them play.

Just recently it was announced that St. Louis’ Union Tree Review will be starting off the evening and that’s just good news for all parties involved.

We are honored to be able to offer up two pairs of tickets to our dear readers. To throw your name on the pile, leave us a comment here on the website, give us a holler Facebook, or give us some retweet action on Twitter. We’ll pick the winners on Friday and we’ll be counting down the hours until we get to see you at the Duck Room!
