#STLSOTD: Thursday, May 15th – brotherfather’s “Walk It Off”

#STLSOTD is an I Went to a Show.com Monday-Friday feature that introduces followers to new St. Louis music by spotlighting one track from one artist or band from IWTAS’ Bandcamp Directory of St. Louis Music.  As always, we welcome your suggestions. If we pick the song you share with us on TwitterFacebook, or in the comments section of this post, we’ll make sure to give you a shout out.

Way back in 2012, Evan Sult, editor of Eleven Magazine, had this to day about today’s #STLSOTD band: “[John Krane’s] new electric project, brotherfather, is a stone gem, like Paul Simon fronting a 90s Seattle band. ‘Stick Around’ is one of 2012’s best recordings. High Praise? Yep.”

High praise, indeed, and well-warranted. Brotherfather, an indie rock outfit built around John Krane’s disarming yet familiar voice and well-crafted lyrics, has been around for a couple years now. The band released Walk It Off in November 2013; it’s a really worthwhile batch of 7 songs, and you can name your price for the digital album on Bandcamp (but don’t be a cheapskate, okay?). My favorite song is the title track thanks to a biting, memorable chorus:

Brotherfather is John Krane, Chris Turnbaugh, Nicholas Horn, and Dustin Scholtes. They play TONIGHT at the brand new Demo in the Grove with Austin rockers Megafauna, Tok, and Little Big Bangs. Details here.
