#STLSOTD: Tuesday, June 24th – Dubb Nubb’s “Burial Mounds”
June 24, 2014
#STLSOTD is an I Went to a Show.com Monday-Friday feature that introduces followers to St. Louis music by spotlighting one track by one artist or band from IWTAS’ Bandcamp Directory of St. Louis Music. As always, we welcome your suggestions. If we pick the song you share with us on Twitter, Facebook, or in the comments section of this post, we’ll make sure to give you a shout out.
Curators of joy Dubb Nubb released a swell full-length record in 2013 called Wild Dreamin’, which rounded out an already impressive body of work by the young trio. Dubb Nubb as a duo cut their teeth at venues like FOAM and Off Broadway in St. Louis, and all over Columbia, MO as they attended college and managed to be working musicians at the same time.
Today’s #STLSOTD is “Burial Mounds” from the band’s aforementioned latest album. It’s a slight departure from Dubb Nubb’s normal thematic structure. Sure, the track glides along smooth harmonies and spare, thoughtful instrumentation, but “Burial Mounds” swoops quickly and frequently into delicious darkness. So on this steamy Tuesday, examine your mortality and delight in this wonderful song:
Dubb Nubb is the sisters Hannah, Delia, and Amanda Rainey. They play this Thursday, June 26th at the Heavy Anchor with River Monks, Bobby Stevens Band, and Googolplexia.
