#STLSOTD: Friday, May 23rd – iLLPHONiCS’ “Mound City March”

#STLSOTD is an I Went to a Show.com Monday-Friday feature that introduces followers to St. Louis music by spotlighting one track by one artist or band from IWTAS’ Bandcamp Directory of St. Louis Music.  As always, we welcome your suggestions. If we pick the song you share with us on TwitterFacebook, or in the comments section of this post, we’ll make sure to give you a shout out.

“We’ve become so cynical that we’ve forgotten how to hope for something better. Instead of ridiculing, we need to seek different eyes with which to see the world,” writes my pal, Beth, in a recent blog post about irony and a disconcerting sense of insincerity in popular culture.

She inspired me, as she often does, and that inspiration led to the discovery of this upbeat, city-lovin’ track by intrepid hip-hop fusion group iLLPHONiCS. It’s an embarrassingly beautiful day outside and there are a bunch of shows happening tonight and tomorrow and over the next couple weeks. There’s just really very little reason for you to act like a shithead this afternoon, so shape up and get to steppin’ with “Mound City March”, off iLLPHONiCS’ 2013 self-titled album:

iLLPHONiCS is Larry “Fallout” Morris, Keith Moore, Kevin Koehler, Simon Chervitz, and Chaz Brew. They play tonight at Plush with the Phantastics and Native Sun.
